Is Your Life Working?
Written and transcribed by Terry Grant.
This is the continuation of a message I have transcribed and edited from a talk Ishvara gave on September 24, 2006. - TG.
Ishvara:
The moment you are willing to take responsibility, the world can begin to change. "Responsibility" can be a troubling word, but it really just means "responding with ability." You realize that there would be no way to take responsibility if you didn't have the ability to take it. Otherwise, the word would mean nothing. And when you get a glimpse of the bigger picture, when you begin to see connections, you understand that something is happening in Life that is very important. Something is taking place that is vital to human existence. It is not the war. It is not the fighting. It is not the governments. The governments have long forgotten they exist for the people. That notion was sacked long ago. Now it is the other way around. The systems would have you believe that you exist for them, that you are to serve them, sacrifice for them.
Systems don't want you to wake up. Religious systems and organizations, spiritual systems and organizations, philosophical systems--all of them are in a conspiracy to keep you caught in some arena of belief that says, "You are not worthy, you are not capable, you need someone else to do it for you. You have no ability to take the responsibility." You are being fed lies. They are lying to you. I don't say they are intentionally lying. They have been lying for so long that they may now believe that what they are saying is true. If you tell a lie over and over, after a while you come to think it is the truth. A system says, "They are our enemy, they have weapons to destroy us," and it keeps saying that, and saying that, and finally the system itself becomes convinced it is true.
There are few people on the planet who aren't brainwashed. There are few people questioning what is taking place. This is important, because if we don't question what is happening, we are going along with it.
Another aspect of the programming is: "It is normal for one to feel powerless." Everything outside looks big, formidable, and even impossible, and the greatest control mechanism of any system is making you think that you are powerless, that you can't do anything, that you are just one little person and you have no ability to make a difference.
Yet there is one accounted-for aspect in human existence: Humans are alive. You are alive, and since you are alive, there is something in you that is not stupid or ignorant or unaware. There is something in you--the truth--that is dynamic, is aware, is watching, is looking, is waiting. As you awaken to that, you begin to see the lies for what they are, you begin to see the manipulations for what they are, you begin to see the games that people are playing. It is then no longer a question of innocence or guilt, no longer a judgment or even a crime. Those are just labels of manipulation.
As you awaken to the truth within yourself, your true beingness, your Is-ness, you find a vitality, an energy, actually a hope, a knowing.
I realized long ago that it is not so much what I do, but what I know. That is difficult isn't it? The intellect says, "What do you mean? Don't we have to DO something? Don't we have to at least march and carry banners?" That may be a second step. The first step is knowing. Knowing that something can be different sets in motion a chain reaction, and that is something every individual can do. Therefore, every individual has power. Contrary to what the systems would have you believe, you are not powerless. You have the ability to know.
You can know things. The more things you start knowing, the more intelligent you become, the more aware you become, the more connected you become, and then you cannot be fooled. You have more or less forgotten that you have an inner truth-seeker, or "crap-shooter": it sees the lies and shoots them down. But you need to let it work. You need to let it do its thing. If you keep making excuses for the lies and the falsehoods, the truth-seeker doesn't work so well.
Now, you have your conditional set of beliefs and concepts about what this is, and how it is supposed to work, and so you may think, "I am the crap-shooter, I am shooting those things down." But in actuality, you are shooting down those things that do not agree with your beliefs, your concepts, your conditioning, your programming, and your past. It is time you look at that again. Are you sure? Are you so sure that Ishvara does not know what he is talking about? Can you be absolutely positive that your belief, your system, your structure, your way of existence, is really it?
There are guidelines; there are tests. The main test is: Is your life working? Is your life working, or are you making excuses for your life? Do you have excuses as to why you "can't do it . . . can't be it . . . can't move forward . . . can't accelerate . . . can't, can't, can't . . . ?" If you have such excuses, your life is not working. You are deluding yourself.
